Social media experience

I've been chasing the perfect nested reply experience for a long time. I tried various developer plugins over the years — some came close, but none truly delivered what I was looking for. They were always partial solutions: fragile, limited, and worst of all, if something went wrong, your content went with it.

Meanwhile, the demand for a social media–like experience on forums kept growing. Developers responded with different approaches, but they were all band-aid fixes — not sustainable, not future-proof in my opinion.

So I decided to stop waiting and start building what I want.

I reached out to XenTR (@Osman ) and together we set out to create something entirely different:

• Redesign the "What's New" section to feel like a true social media feed
• Convert traditional forum replies into nested conversations — clean, intuitive, and modern
• Ensure zero content loss — no matter what happens with the plugin, your messages stay safe

Let me be honest — this wasn't an overnight project. The research and development phase alone took a considerable amount of time. From studying how social media platforms handle threaded conversations, to engineering a solution that integrates seamlessly with XenForo's core architecture without compromising data integrity — every detail was carefully thought through and tested. It was a long road, but the result was worth every bit of the wait.

We've been testing for several days and we're nearly there. The results? Exactly what I envisioned.

And here's the best part: even your old qoutes aren't left behind. A simple cron job migrates all existing content into the new architecture — seamlessly.

This plugin was originally developed exclusively for my forum. But I believe the community deserves access to it too. So I've agreed with Osman to make it available on their store for everyone.

So you embed the replies ? ie. the replies sort of become "a part of" the original post reply ?

Yes, the reason for this we didnt want to lose any post in case of potential future problems. The replies becoming qouted messages if addon uninstalled.

It looks similar. We have respected the design in XenForo profile posts. I believe, more or less most addons have similar design.

Overall, I am unable to explain technically but the addon is using xenforo core system and templates mostly.

@Osman did fantastic job!

Honestly, he has gone beyond what I was expecting. Of course, as users we always want more, but even this first version (1.0.0) already feels really solid and well thought out.

I’ve attached a screenshot from my site as an example, and it’s clear how much of a difference this addon makes. The way the old quotes now look more modern and clean is a big improvement—it instantly refreshes the overall feel.

Also, the fact that he has built this by fully leveraging XenForo’s core structure (as he mentioned) makes it feel much more reliable from my perspective.

This definitely deserves recognition. Really appreciate the effort and time he has put into it—great work!

Feedback like this genuinely motivates me to keep improving the product. Seeing the add-on making a visible difference on real communities is one of the most rewarding parts of development.

I'm also glad that the decision to build on top of XenForo's core architecture is being appreciated. My goal has always been to create something that feels like a natural extension of XenForo rather than a workaround.

And this is just the beginning—there's plenty more planned for future versions.
