I try not to put anything useful in a signature anymore--on this forum and a couple of others, signature viewing is turned off.

I'm trying to suggest on a large forum I admin for that we get users to put their links into their profile somewhere. And then, the links can be found that way. A lot of them are habitual "Marketplace" sellers in our forum and like to link to their current items.

Frankly, except for support links, I'm not sure if signatures provide that much benefit, but that's just me.

I installed the Signature Once add-on when I converted all of my forums, and nobody really said anything about it. It displays a signature only once within a thread (or on a single page of a thread).

I just don't like the clutter of signatures--I can read a thread much faster if the sigs are gone. I also feel that if there are important links in a signature (like Brogan's), it might help to have them in an alternate place for those of us who do have them turned off.

I don't mind a short one-line quote in a signature--it can be like a mood setter or show a bit of insight into a person. A couple of my favorites:

"We don't have mistakes here, we just have happy accidents." --Bob Ross (I use this on a "staff" forum for our big board. )

"Pristine, perfect. One of the great livers of our time. Awash in Dewars and full of health." --Paul Desmond (A quote from the late jazz saxophonist...a favorite of mine.)

The signatures never really bothered me here. I don't pay attention to most people's so I have no reason to complain.

What does annoy me about Xenforo(which is really a small thing) is the fact that the signature line is nearly invisible that it makes the signature look like it is almost apart of someone's post. On some XF forums, people have gifs as their signatures and it looks like the gif is in the post.
