XF 2.2 Site issues

Today, one of my forums was having issues. First it was a 502 page. Then it came back again. Then it was loading very slowly - particularly, graphics. Then a host error (connection between cloudflare and server). So contacted the server to check their end - but what was odd is my other two forums didn't have any issues. Normally if it's the server, they all have the same issue.

They came up with this and said I needed to ask about it here. Something to do with I/O. A script causing a spike in IOPS usage. Of course they then suggested upgrading the plan to a more expensive Cloud plan!

Any ideas what it's about please? This is the screenshot they gave me re the issue. Site seems ok now but it's been on and off.

So they diagnosed it as something you need to ask xenForo about, but could also be fixed by a more expensive hosting plan.Hmmmm

To be honest - at first they kept telling me to check DNS servers which I knew were ok. That was the bot though I think - sending me round in circles. The real person then said it was a fault in the code and check with the forum - or upgrade to a plan that had more I/O thingies. They used to admit it was at their end at one time!

With customer service like that, I think you'd be better off leaving them.

For the record, for the 18 months or so that I've been on XF Cloud it's been rock solid and very responsive. You might want to look at this option, perhaps.

Fair enough. But definitely leave this rubbish company in my opinion, as there's much better hosts out there who will treat you right.

In my case, when I had my own server, I rolled my own using AWS and loved it. Definitely not the cheapest option out there, but I could run a server precisely customised to my needs with the latest OS, PHP, database and backup configuration. I still miss it today. I was especially proud of it, because I had zero knowledge of how to configure and run a web server before I started, so learned it all from scratch. All I had was my general computer knowledge and aptitude to rely on.

If I can ever get the superfast symmetric gigabit broadband that I so want, I might even build my own physical server from scratch with failover etc and run it off that. That's not happening anytime soon though, alas.

They've always been really good until just recently - they had great customer support - but seem to be using something like chatgpt to respond to support questions now!

We also would be glad to look into this and troubleshoot.

Thank you. Yes it's the "Members recently online" addon. No fake members but you can set a long date so anyone who has been online in the past x months shows up - yes makes the forum look busy. I'll try disabling that, thank you.
