I'm considering converting from vb3. Does xenforo include the similar threads feature as standard or is that only available with enhanced search addon or some 3rd party addon?

there are third party addons. one by @AndyB. Official addon would require enhanced search as you stated.

To use xenforo enhanced search it looks like I need to install elasticsearch. When I went to their website it seems like so many options and some free and paid. Is elasticsearch free and I will just pay for xenforo enhanced search addon?

elasticsearch has a free version. and you would need to install and configure it for use. or use any of the hosted solutions. the addon would require it to be there. there are lots of guides on this forum itself to set it up. experience would vary.

I can vouch for his addons. He has some very helpful ones, as well as some ones that you don't think you want, but find useful. Hundreds of addons for one yearly sub of like what, 35 a year?
