XF 1.4 Should I use the image proxy function?

Is the image proxy only useful for https sites?

My forums are photography forums where people embed tons of high-res photos hosted from other sites like Flickr. Any advantage to using the image proxy if I'm not https and don't need to track usage stats?

There are some privacy improvements in that it's your server requesting the image, not the end user (and thus not exposing their IP or any other HTTP request elements). That's generally rather minor though.
