Serious concern: Why were XenForo customers never informed about this alleged internal data leak?

I'm not saying you shouldn't be able to have your say. But FWIW, if this place was mine you wouldn't be sullying the peer-to-peer support forum with such stuff, you'd contact my mailbot directly. :)

But alas, it's not mine, so ***** away.

An even in the US, it is only the government that is restrained from restricting free speech. A business or individual can set and enforce standards for speech on its/their website and premises.
This 💯

Even Australia has many restrictions on freedom of speech.
Which i think is @Anthony Parsons point because he and i are from australia.
Something that @tajhay needs to keep an eye on. He's an aussie too. As is @BIG LLC and @Jim Boy

Same in the UK, freedom of speech/expression of opinion (in regard to political or religious beliefs) is protected by law. However there are more restrictions in place, eg language that defames, incites terrorism, hate crimes, harasses etc.

But I agree free speech is not relevant in this situation.

Comments about the legal rights to free speech are largely irrelevant in these types of circumstances and serve as a red herring.

The relevant point is that if an entity is censoring criticisms & concerns about itself, it is untrustworthy. So Xenforo allowing these types of discussions on their forum is a good sign. I would be strongly inclined to avoid businesses that censor such discussions.

I didn't suggest they censor criticisms or concerns about themselves. I just suggested that this peer-to-peer support forum is not the place for such criticisms. Allowing anyone, a mixture of customers, potential customers, competitors, even bad actors, to diss your company on your own support forum? Well, it just wouldn't happen if it was mine. But it isn't, so it's academic.

I do consider it valuable (if not essential) to be able to ask critical questions, to give critical feedback or to criticize to product on the customer forums - they should not be reduced to a cheerleading community. It is of value for XenForo as well as for the community and I value that XF makes this possible. The issue is that in these forums this opportunity has evolved to another level and is heavily misused by a small, but very loud minority. Criticism should be respectful and constructive, but what we see here is to relevant amount destructive and w/o any respect. Made up statements, outright lies that could count as defamation and a tone that is often simply not acceptable. Some people simply lack the responsibility that comes with the opportunity. When called out on it they claim it would be their right (I've never heard of a right for defamation) or they would just "share their opinion" (as i.e. seen in this very thread) or "give feedback", demand their "right of free speech" (obviously having no idea what they are talking about) and basically behave like the literal Karen in the worst possible way.

This way the very positive opportunity for critical feedback changes from a thing of value to the exact opposite: A permanent hysterical spread of FUD and hostility at every opportunity possible. As basically all people posting here are running their own forums I sometimes wonder how those Karen-alike people handle criticism, defamation and made up lies against them in their own forums. I assume, either we are talking double standards here or their forums must have a pretty horrible culture.

I would not expect the behavior of those in question to change and I also think, active moderation of these threads to keep them constructive is difficult to handle if you want to avoid allegations of censorship by the same people that create the need for moderation in the first hand. So impossible to find a perfect solution. Maybe, as someone mentioned earlier, it could be an idea to move these discussions into a closed forum, only accessible for customers with an active license or running maintenance and give clear rules for them regarding behavior and moderation in case of misbehavior. Don't know. At the moment these discussions and this discussion style damages XenForo, damages this forum, damages the value and the culture of this forum and a very limited set of people constantly bully XF as a company, the XF team members, other members of the forum, create a hostile environment full of destructiveness and hijack threads constantly that then go completely adrift from their topic and become destructive.

Xenforo has received a court order to lay open documents regarding the website like who bought the license for XenForo and other data that they may have regarding the case. They followed that order and this helped to give more evidence (there was evidence before) that the defendant ran the forum and was involved.
Can I see a copy of this court order?

he issue is that an - according to the court - "source" from probably inside XenForo ( a confidential source who appears to have been working for Xenforo ) had given parts of this information to the plaintiffs or their lawyers before the court order had been made, earlier in the process. Nobody (publicly) knows who that was.
I'm glad they did. Kudos to them.

You'd obviously have to ask XF for that (or the Sands that made the claim). I'd however doubt that anyone would hand it over to you.
Why? Either the court order is real and that information can be verified, or the court order isn't real and XenForo just leaks user data to anyone who asks for it. If there is a court order, it can dispel any concerns of trust. If there isn't one, and XenForo just leaks data, it raises questions as to why they wouldn't be willing to leak the correspondence that led up to the decision to leak user data, assuming that such a decision was reasonable to begin with. Either privacy is a concern or it isn't.

No, it's a restricted document.
Do you actually know this? By who's authority? Is this an English thing where all court orders are automatically sealed? How do you know the court order is even real? I am genuinely curious what series of logical steps led up to the point where you believe that the court order is real but cannot be acknowledged officially.

You are making things up. As it is mentioned in the court's protocol of the trial it is obviously real. No one has doubted that it would be. You are missing the issue which is that information has reached the plaintiffs before that order took place and it currently looks as if that info came in one way or another from someone from XF. This is what makes some people unhappy/nervous/angry/whatever.
Please: As this is a sensitive topic, could you please read what you are commenting on and read the original documents or at least the quoted excerpts before making such bold and false accusations as you do?
Why would or should anyone share any internal company documents or closed court documents with you? Apart from that: What benefit would that have if you are already making things up agains the pretty clear facts that have been named countless times in this thread?

Presumably for the same reason that Google dumps hundreds of thousands of DMCA takedown notices to Chilling Effects's Lumen Database: transparency and accountability?

I've skimmed through the thread and I see absolutely no documents you're referring to, I'd appreciate being directed to them.

Presumably the case was not in the US but in the UK, the person that has been sued is not Google and has no interest in making anything public (rather the opposite) and obviously a NPO ist something completely different from a DMCA takedown notice. You are not only comparing apples with oranges - it simply makes it impossible to have a discussion that is of any meaning if you continue like you started over the postings you did in this thread.

Interesting, as it is linked already in the second posting of the thread, countless times afterwards and others had no issues fining the document.
So when I was told this:
No, it's a restricted document.
And this:

That is a lie by a misinformed person who somehow also missed 20 reiterations of the same thing?

What does this mean?
You are missing the issue which is that information has reached the plaintiffs before that order took place and it currently looks as if that info came in one way or another from someone from XF.
Did XenForo lawfully follow court orders in the procedurally correct way or did they not?
