Server issue 【serious bug】Upload avatar can actually make a 520 ERROR to the website? including here at xenforo.com!

Ok, I got this problem after I uploaded an avatar image to my forum.

The "new" avatar just shows as a little dot.




Sometimes it appears empty:



Sometimes the lower part of the avatar is not showing:







Then after a reload of the page, I got this





It's a system wise problem, not just for particular user.

I'll have to wait a while to have the system come back and stable. The uploaded avatar appears normal. The problem seems have never happened.

What's the worst, I just tested it in xenforo.com/community and the same error appeared!








This problem only happens for avatar uploading, not for attachment uploading.

I attached the images I used for testing.

I'll leave it to Xenforo's team to test it for their website.

xenforo.com is having the same problem, and it's using Cloudflare as well..

yes, but u don't disable cloudflare for test.

It's a Cloudflare issue and has Notting to do with avatar uploads.

Might by just me, but: The last few days I do get CloudFlare errors quite often when trying to access xenforo.com Are there any known issues?

But I can reproduce the 520 error easily by the avatar upload now. So it's not really something random.

People in that thread never mentioned about this. They thought it's a random problem caused by CF..

Let me reproduce the problem in xenforo.com again now. Just want to make sure I'm right.

See? Just by uploading avatar I can cause so many problems to the server.




ERROR 520 is easily created.



I believe everybody is affected by this error now? look at the time stamp.

I wonder if anyone else can also test the avatar uploading thing and see you can also reproduce this problem.

You can try using any images actually. I suspect it's something to do with image size/dimension. etc.

I just did a few tests (uploaded & deleted an avatar here at xenforo.com about 10 times) and did not experience a single issue.

I believe it's related to CF cache too. And upload an avatar will make use of this cache thing that causes all those problems..

This isn’t a software bug but the ongoing apparent CF issues are being monitored closely.

Nothing further to report and no known issues currently so if you’re experiencing something please create a new thread and let us know and we’ll look into it.
