SEO (SEO2) [Deleted]

  1. Go to seo_amp_PAGE_CONTAINER template.
  2. Find: <link rel="icon" type="image/png" height="64" width="64" href="{{ base_url(property('publicFaviconUrl'), true) }}" sizes="32x32" />
  3. Replace: <link rel="icon" type="image/png" href="{{ base_url(property('publicFaviconUrl'), true) }}" sizes="32x32" />
 
While I love all this arcane debate, the reality is there is no good SEO add-on for any new installs of XF2+. It's a shame this excellent add-on can't be sold to someone willing to support it. I among many others have offered to do so. I would also be supportive of taking it over for free and making it freely available. It's just to darn useful to let it die. I'm going to have to abandon XF if there is no replacement for future versions of XF. XF unfortunately does not provide any basic SEO features out of the box (and yes, I know they think they do, and no they don't understand the use case).

Decide for yourself and effectively which content is indexed from the search engine. This happens either automatically or manually.
There are extensive rules in the forum preferences.

When creating a thread, you can immediately influence the "noindex","index","nofollow" and "follow" Robot Meta specifications.

Threads:
  • Robot Index global for all Threads in the Forum
  • Robot Follow global for all Threadsin the Forum
  • Robot Index for single threads
  • Robot Follow for single threads
  • Thread Title lower case option

It is/was a nice addon but let's be realistic: it isn't going to make or break your forum or search indexing of your forum. Yes it would be nice if someone took it over and updated it for XF 2.2, but if that doesn't happen the world won't end and neither will your forums.

And core Xenforo SEO features are actually quite decent. To say "XF unfortunately does not provide any basic SEO features out of the box" is simply not true.

You can't post a a link to a XF page on Facebook at get a hero image (no way to set og:image metadata). That's core functionality that absolutely does break my scenario. Ultimately it comes down to wanting CMS with conversations and being CMS-first vs. forum-first. Why not both? XF's lack of CMS/SEO functionality is major gap in the product IMO.

Unfortunately, SEO2 contains many things that are now included in XF2.2. So I would have to remove or rework a lot of them to offer a version that works for XF2.2. This effort is currently not feasible.
