SEO Addon for Xenforo

Yoast actually offers integration with other platforms
Not just WordPress.
It would be best to request integration with xenforo from Yoast. If enough people request it, they might consider it.
Alternatively, you could hire a skilled developer to implement this. Developer documentation can be found here :

I found that addon for editing meta-titles and meta-descriptions, but the title is limited to 60 chars. Google says, the title could be longer... so this addon is outdated:

Software like Yoast has hundreds of features and I can think of many more. If you think that just being able to set titles and descriptions in an old school manner will suffice as a SEO addon then you have very difficult requirements than I. I wouldn't even bother.

Sadly this addon does not support titles and descriptions for cateories or forums. it is only possible in threads. So in my opinion this addon is not usable as a SEO solution.
Surely the main point is to give admins control over UGC, ie threads.

They can already control descriptions and titles for forums and categories.

Yes, it possible to edit descriptions and titles. But I want to edit META descriptions and META titles separately. That is not possible!

Yes it makes sense with threads but I can’t think of a scenario where that is useful with forums or categories.

I think about several senarios. One example:

The admin wants to have a short title for the forum for clarity (short category title). But for the Google Snippet it makes sense to use a long title for this forum. so that you don't waste any potential for keywords.

Example:

- the title of the forum is "startup news".

- the meta title could be: "Technology news and news from the startup scene"

the meta title could be: "Technology news and news from the startup scene
But I think you’ll find that keywords in the meta title won’t have much effect these days. If the one extra keyword there (ie technology) is important it should be in the h1.

It depends on the topic, which keywords makes an effect. there a several opinions about that.

and: its the combination of META title and META description.

you can have the same example also for the description.

popular search engines haven't used meta data for crawling in years.
That’s correct. A good description is useful. Not for indexing or search results but a good description can get more click throughs.

But IMO it might as well be the same description as the forum description as it serves the same purpose.

Not exactly.

These days, it's using the structured data approach.

clearly isn't coming from the meta tags.

Code:

Meta data still has weight to carry in todays SERP, ranking factor wise its slim but CRO and CTR wise you'll find an optimised Meta description is more likely to entice a user to click your listing over an auto generated description from Schema or the sectional content on the page.

We created a batch of SEO plugins for XF2 in 2017, never released them to the public as we could never support the masses and they were only for used for Client Xenforo installs that had a retainer with us. But its absolutely possible :

That seems to be pulling the description from post#3 ie the description from Andy’s addon.
