Greetings,

I got an offer via an email from an unknown person with offer to buy my forum/domain/content. He says that it's risk free using escrow.com.
But any loosing of money starts with the words "it's risk free". )))

I never used escrow.com or anything similar so I have no any idea if it's trusted or some scam.
Could you guys please give me some information. Is it really safe? What might be a catch? What is the way to safely sell domain/forum/content without risking give it away for nothing.

Thanks in advance.

escrow is legit. they take a cut, that's the catch.

you put assets in
he puts money in

escrow releases it to both parties once both things are met.

Usually the escrow cut is taken from the buyer side also. So it doesn't come from your sales price (pocket), technically.

Escrow.com also benefits slightly from a higher sale price, since they are working off of a percentage. They will actually go to bat for you with the buyer if you do your research and fine comparable recent domain sales and ask for more than the original offer because of it.

The buyers first offer is almost never the buyers limit.

Thank you guys. So escrow just holds the buyers money, or I also transfer domain and all the files to them for they sure that I made my part of the deal?

Yes, once you agree on the sale price. Buyer funds the sale to Escrow.com, once funded on Escrow.com seller transfers domain/files, etc to Escrow.com. Once everything is in Escrow.com and agreed upon both sides are released what they're due.

I've been using Escrow.com for over 20 years now. Including deals in the >$100k range. They are legit. They've been around for a long time. I don't know how they handle the actual forum content stuff, but they do handle domains and use WHOIS records, etc. to verify.

Thank you guys!
Will escrow.com kind of guide me through the process? I mean they will give me the order of "events" - first creating an agreement, then seller sends them money, then I transfer domain and files to them, etc?

Yes, you will be emailed every time you need to do something and will be given specific instructions on what you need to do. When you login to your Escrow.com account you will also be able to see exactly where the entire process is as far as what steps have been completed and what's coming next, etc.

It's extremely easy and very secure. All you will need to do is accept or decline the offer when it comes through. The price negotiation phase usually is done through email back-and-forth between you and escrow.com, never with the buyer directly. This usually all takes place before the official final offer is made on escrow.com. You normally never have direct contact with the buyer throughout the whole process. You will see when the buyer has funded the escrow with the agreed upon dollar amount. Once that is complete escrow.com will direct you step-by-step on what you need to do on your end. They handle all communications with the buyer, you will likely never know who they are. It's a simple and safe process.

Legit. Both of you have to agree that the terms of the transfer have been met and that all items have been transferred to the buying party; including domain names, software, licenses, database and operating software files, etc. The money isn't released until both of you sign-off on it being complete.
