I initially installed Beta 5 without branding removal and purchased it later. I had to go through a scary process of replacing files to remove branding (after I had already done customizations, scared they might be overwritten). Everything stayed intact, though.

Does 1-click upgrade know that you're brand free and upgrade on its own accordingly or do you need to upload the "license" files again, each time?

The one click upgrade replaces the files in the same way FTP does.

Does that mean that the FTP port has to be enabled?

What I mean is the action is the same, regardless whether you use FTP, SSH, File Manager via cPanel, or one click upgrade from the ACP - the files from the new release overwrite the existing files on the server.
