XF 1.5 Route Filters - replace /forums/ with just /

I guess I could just make the change and see what happens but I know we have to be very careful with route filters.

I want to remove /forums/ within the URL and replace it with nothing

http://www.example.com/community/forums
becomes
http://www.example.com/community/

is this what I would put?

Find Route: /forums
Replace with: /
DO NOT CHECK - incoming URL conversion only
CHECK Enable​

If I do this would the sitemap be updated? Would it also send back a 301 redirect? Or does the original URL not change?

I'm a bit confused.

The reason I'm looking at doing this is that I have xenforo installed in a /forums/ folder and thus forum URLs have /forums/forums which looks really stupid and confusing.

That's not possible.

The route can be changed but not removed completely.
