XF 1.5 Reverting updates possible?

I want to upgrade xenforo, but i'm curious if its easily possible to revert changes somehow if for example add-on stuff makes the software break?

You would need to revert to a backup. If you're running add-ons, we would recommend upgrading a test installation first to confirm whether there are problems.
