Required user fields

Is there a way to make more user fields required at registration? I find it makes it a lot easier to determine if an account is real or spam when all or most of the fields are required.

Custom user fields can be made required:

Admin CP -> Users -> Custom User Fields

I'm talking about the default ones like location, bio, etc.

An addon is required to make those fields required. Those fields aren't configurable like custom user fields are.

Can we delete the default fields and repopulate with custom fields, to make them mandatory?

Those built-in fields can't be deleted. They are integrated with the user records.
