Reports - Report system versus using a forum?

A while back, after we upgraded to 1.5 perhaps, we decided to start having reports go to a Reports forum rather than using the reports system. It just seemed more flexible and conducive to mods discussing the reports (our mods have an obsession with getting consensus before acting). Has the reports system been changed in any major way in 2.x? Just trying to figure out if I should take the time to turn it on in my dev to have a look.

The reporting system in xf 2.1 combines the best of both worlds IMO. Reports alert all staff members via the staff bar, but they are listed in a thread-like environment in the report queue. A reports forum leaves open the possibility that it may take some time for any staffer to see the new reports.

Staff should always be watching such forums.

We have it so the reports from is viewable by staff and OP, this way staff can discuss with the person making the report, but nobody part from staff and the reporter can see the discussion.

We find this works very well and makes members feel included. (Obviously staff can also copy or take the thread to a staff only area if appropriate)

That was my first recommendation when we went the forum route but I'm not sure how many of my mods actually do it. We pretty much have a whole different team than we did when we switched to using a forum so the message may not have got carried forward.

I'm not sure I'd want the reporter seeing the discussion. Sometimes it reflects on them as much as the reportee, to be honest. We have a couple folks prone to making "nuisance reports" of people with whom they are having a snit who haven't actually broken any of our rules. It's against the rules to do it but that doesn't stop certain people.

This is what we thought may be an issue, but after trialling the system we have found it to work really well and probably 90% of reports work best this way, it's no big deal to hive the 10% off for private staff discussion.

We also get those nuisance reports, and being able to discuss with the members often works - they appreciate we are feeding back immediately, even if it's just "sorry, this isn't against the rules so no action"

That way they no the report hasn't just disappeared into some moderator black hole. It's worth a try IMO.
