Yes, we can turn the site ON/OFF with Setup Options > Board Active

We need Register ON/OFF when new registrations are unwanted, but viewing os OK.

For example, new board previewing, testing or SpamBOT flooding, etc.



Of course, this can be done by obliterating the Edit template: register_form and then reverting it, but there must be a more official way?

If you aren't already aware, most (if not all) things can be found using the ACP search at the top right.

Anything related to functionality such as that is going to be in the Options.

I have had 50,000 spambot intercepts in the past 10 days using Spam-O-Matic on vB3. Insane, but the server handles it fine and with 1 Tb of bandwidth, no sweat. Otherwise, I'd be looking into a hardware firewall with blocks by country. Even that might not control it, but jail time would.
