XF 2.2 Registration Field Query

Is there a way to set a custom required field for registration that then doesn't show on the users profile?
We want a way to allow a user to enter their membership number so we can then validate and add them to private forums but dont want the info to be visible to the public.

@Lee, can you help please? If I turn off "User editable", after that this field doesn't show on registration page. And if mark "User editable", it shows correctly, but user can edit it in profile. I can't figure out if this is a Xenforo bug or if I just can't set it up correctly.
