XF 1.1 Quality Of images on VB import

The quality of the avatar images from importing from vb 3.6 is fairly poor, is there anyway to improve on this?

Avatars are resized to fit XenForo's 3 different avatar sizes. That can mean upscaling if the image is small. If you upload a higher res image then it will be better quality.
