Something you don't want to fool with if you want your server to be reliable.
Stick with an Apple product using OS X server.

My friend once playing witth hackintosh and used that to his small office. It runs great, but yeah. Dont mess with hackintosh server if you dont know what are you doing

A mac mini for a server.... huh .... Why do I have the imagine in my head of things burning up in flames?!

They're actually insanely reliable (and run pretty damn cold - the old ones got a bit warm but the new ones are great).

Don't knock it till you've tried it


As for hackintosh/0sx86 options I wouldn't recommend it for a server. It's fine for a home computer as long as you match up the hardware correctly, but still tend to be a little flakey.
