They had for 1.2, with the new template tools you will be able to supply a REGEX to remove that from the two templates, and that will survive between updates ;)
 
I don't know if I was dreaming or not but didn't one of the developers state that all of the fields are being moved to custom user fields?

If so, you can delete it.
