XF 2.2 Private threads in What's New?

On my forum we have a paid for member section. This is probably the most used area on the forum. Is it possible to have the threads from here appear in the "What's new" areas for non-paid members to see?
Often there are many posts in there but not so many in the "public" area, with them not showing in the "what's new" it appears as though not much is going on.
Obviously non-paid members would be unable to access the paid section but it would allow them to see what they are missing.

The permissions apply globally.

You could change the permissions to make the forum and thread titles visible, but not the post content.
