well he does not care about my website. but mysql being an open source product, it is not totally under his control!
i mean he also controls openoffice now! its not like Go-oo would disappear!
Oracle should make openoffice cloud based for enterprise solutions as well.
we can only hope that MySQL survives the wrath of Oracle. of course it cannot be shut off from the open source scene. but there are still plenty of fears in the market.
If oracle cuts of mysql, im sure there are more experienced developers out there that can continue it.
...
Oracle is going to integrate mysql into enterprise solutions. What makes you think he cares about your website?
He left MySQL because updates were being pushed out to meet a release schedule, rather than any quality milestones. Some updates were pushed out with severe bugs and instability. Sound familiar? The guy who created MySQL is now working on a new project which I think there is a good chance to be an alternative for MySQL in some point in the future.
Indeed! He left MySQL because updates were being pushed out to meet a release schedule, rather than any quality milestones. Some updates were pushed out with severe bugs and instability. Sound familiar?
Intention doesn't mean that you can't have an additional option on your software, nor would you ever have to use it.I only intend on having one database software installed on my servers.

He's backing MySQL afaik.Well that's okay for you, what about the vast majority of Xen owners who will be using hosting companies?
MySQL is an industry standard, but would imagine with an eye on the future Kier and Mike have made the database stuff a layer, ergo they can add drivers for other db models where they see a requirement without it being a major rewrite. Someone could always write alternative db options themselves, am sure if it's solid enough Xenforo will be happy.

At this point in time, it doesn't make much sense to use PostgreSQL, as it is only a BETA and v1 software (When gold is out); they can add support for different databases later on (And I think they have tentatively said they might).
Anyone running a Microsoft server, but otherwise liking PHP apps is ending up running both MySQL and Microsoft SQL on the same server. It's really not that much of an issue.I only intend on having one database software installed on my servers.
