Possible to modify registration form?

Is it possible to easily modify the registration form to make it SSL and add additional fields to collect credit card data for premium memberships?

I'm not talking about processing the credit cards or any really detailed integration. Just want to collect the data through a secure registration page, then process the cards by hand through the regular merchant account. Down the road, it would be nice to have it integrate fully with Authorize.net and process the cards automatically.

Is a simple SSL page with additional fields possible?
