Possible to have 2 custom questions required at registration determine which User Group?

I tried this in demo and couldn't get it to work.

BUT seems that it should.

So you require them to answer via
What color is their hair and they have choices brown and black.
2nd question is do you live in New York?

They select black
and Yes

I created a user group with custom question answers Black and Yes.

But they ended up just in the Registered group. I am guessing I did something wrong as it SEEMS like this is possible with xenforo.

It should be possible using a user group promotion.

OK thank you. I was trying in user group promotion but got frustrated having to log out of admin and then in with the user and back to admin etc lol

Did you check secondary groups? Registered will always be the primary.

Also bear in mind that cron jobs are ran to upgrade users so if you're not waiting a few minutes for the cron to run then you'll miss it!

I can't remember the cron frequency. A few minutes I think as long as there's at least 1 user online.

Still can't get this to work.

I have to go in and have admin manually add them to the secondary user group.

I have tried all sorts of variations on this page. What should be checked?

Suffice to say, it is possible to create promotions based on custom user fields.

Just to clarify, promotions only update automatically once per hour by default (or when a user visits for the first time in a session) and only when a user is active recently. There is a way to trigger that instantly for testing/initial creation purposes, but it's not how you'd normally use them.
