Blatchy Pollster

Six poll types for XenForo. One addon. Zero boring questions.

Blatchy Pollster extends XenForo's native poll system with five new poll types alongside the classic standard poll — in one addon. Built for XenForo 2.3+, using the platform's own attachment, voting, and permission systems — no...

Great idea. I love it.

I was fleshing out a simpler idea: "Post Polls"

It's for on the fly "micro" polls

I wanted them for sports game day threads where you'd poll people active in the thread about: "What should the coach do with 3 minutes left in the 4th quarter".

I bet Adsense would love this microdata on forum participants if you were able to "feed" the information back to them.

Some feedback, if I may.
I had the rating type poll in mind for our movie threads so that people can rate the movie in each thread.
We currently have standard polls where people pick 1 through 10...
Untitled-1.webp
...which is clearly awful.

I thought that the user would be able to pick a score - ideally with a slider or something - and the average gets displayed.
But it's not that at all.
If we wanted to score the movie on different aspects - say story, acting, direction, picture, sound etc. then what you have might work.
Although I think I'm missing exactly how this type of poll is intended to be used.

We want to do something simple and have just the one rating element. Unfortunately your addon requires at least two.

I created this
and chose 4 or 5 out of 5 for the criteria I set up. But the resulting post showed scores of 4.8 or 4.3 I think (it's changed now that someone else has rated). How are these numbers worked out? It's confusing.

Thanks

Hey there.. I realize its a little confusing and I can change it.. Its currently a Bayesian/weighted score and that's why your 5 showed as 4.8 and your 4 showed as 4.3. The only way a 5 will only ever show as a full 5.0 is if if everything in the poll is rated 5.

If you'd rather it just show the plain average — where a 5 shows as 5.0 — I can switch it to that

I understand that the poll options need to fit within the existing XenForo framework, but I'd like to make a suggestion for the image poll, please.
We're going to use it for our monthly photo competition, but it would be super useful if we could add a link to each image. That link, in our case, would be to the post that the image is submitted in. So people can click the link (in a button, or whatever) and see the image in full and read what the photographer has to say about it. For other polls, maybe the link could be to a full sized version of the image.
Thanks for considering.

I am currently on vacation so at the moment I can only respond.

In a sense you can already do this. Go back to the forums and create a poll. There is a caption field currently there. It would not take much to move that field off the image and list it underneath.

I will be home later tomorrow.

Good to hear. If it's a link, it would make sense to make it a clickable item rather than just a text link.
