Permissions

I haven't done any permissions in a while and gon rusty

I simply want to exclude certain groups from a Category - embarrassingly basic.
I did it with the permissions page for that Category - making some of the items RED NO so a usergroup can see it's there but not read content.
Is that OK?
Ive had dire warnings not to use the RED NO but I cant see how else to do this.

Never is overriding. All members of that group will "never" have that permission. Use it if appropriate. Otherwise if there are exceptions then use Revoke.

Jake I thought permissions were vertical as it were with individual forum overrriding a general usergroup etc but ONLY for that forum
otherwise whats the point of having the red NO on a node?

Yes. Never for a permission for a specific node means members of that group will never have that permission for that node.
