I Am still struggling with the XF permissions system coming from IPS ( its probably easy once you get your head round it but right now its just convoluted..... to me )

See attached

Where is it Inherited from ? ie what the overriding factor where it gets its inherited permissions from ?Screenshot 2022-03-21 at 10.21.37.webp

You’re currently looking at node/forum specific permissions so these would be inherited from the global user group permissions.

For example the Registered user group may have the “View node” permission set globally.

But on this screen which is the specific permissions that apply to the Registered group for that node/forum you could override it with “Never” so that while all other forums are viewable this particular forum would no longer be viewable.

@Jeremy P Thankyou - Its starting to fall into place now - completely different to the IPS approach and I was struggling but the fogs clearing now

@Brogan Nice guide - thank you - That should be put in the manual(or a line) as the manual is no way as clear as your explanation

Ok - I hate to admit it - still going uphill

Just set up the reg user group

And made a test post with a reg user

The post doesnt she in the counts ?

Yet when I go there its there ?

Also want to place all posts in reg group in mod queue - then after 2 posts they get promoted

I added submit content without approval to no for the reg user group - but they can post (albeit without a thread count) ?

Im baffled.....

And if I make another user and do a post - that user cant see the other users posts - only an admin can see all post ?

So again where is this inherited from ?

As view three content and by others is inherited - in user permissions for reg general settings its set to yes though ?

It inherits from the user groups and any customer user permissions, if set.

Use the permissions analyser to see how the final value for a specific permission is calculated.

The thread is pending approval (as indicated by the shield icon in the thread list and the message at the top of the thread itself). It is only visible to moderators (or users with permission to view unapproved posts) and the user who posted it, and is not included in thread/message counts. So it sounds like it's working as anticipated.
