Permissions and trophies

This has been bugging me in the 24 hours I have been using a demo for Xenforo. Is the permission set up.

I've read the part on the Xenforo website about Permissions but I still am confused. Should EVERY member be considered Registered?

I'm using the demo to teach my staff how to manage usergroups and users but I'm Having tough time fully understanding.

A. If i want to make a forum exclusive ONLY to moderatosrs and admins what usergroup do i give them?

Right now, I have some set to Registered, Some set to Moderating, Administrative, etc etc.

B. If there are usergroups for Moderating and Administrative, what is the purpose of having to manually add someone as a moderator or administrator?

C. Trophies. I just want to set up Trophy ranks when a person reaches a certain post count. I don't care about points. I just want the post count. How does one do that?

D. Xenforo home page...How does one go about getting a page like that which tells what your site is about?

Good software but coming from Phppb3 and IPB, some things are not obviously apparent

By default everyone is a primary member of Registered. That group defines the base permissions for everyone. Then you can add additional groups to add or subtract permissions.

A. Enable this option:

Admin CP -> Applications -> Display Node Tree -> Permissions -> Private node

Now you can specify Allowed permissions for the groups under that node. The Private node option disables all permissions such that you only need to specify Allowed permissions.

B. Groups are normally used to grant permissions on the forum. The individual mod / admin assignments are used to grant the special mod / admin permissions, such as permissions inside of the Admin CP.

C. Template edit:

I think Chris is making this into an addon:

D. You can use XenPorta (portal system with content blocks):

http://xenforo.com/community/resources/8wayrun-com-xenporta-portal.90/

Or you can use a page node where you define the HTML yourself. The page node can be made into a tab with this addon:

http://xenforo.com/community/resources/nodes-as-tabs.9/

Or of course you can just create your own web page, having nothing to do with XenForo.
