XF 2.1 Orientation issue by Samsung devices

hello,

so...i sort of assume this has to be a known issue...i was surprised to find it again here as it also was on vb...

you all know what im talking about?

uploaded images from samsung devices ending up sideways!

we had a custom fix for this in vb4....working on another one presently for xen....

if it can be fixed from within xen will be best off and a logical improvement...

has this been considered?

Horizontal picture taken by Samsung Note 9.

I'm not having this issue. Is there a specific, possibly older, model doing this? I know my wife's 4 or 5 year old smartphone will flip video and pictures.

i believe it is mainly a few phones? more recent than 5yrs i think tho....i do not have one to test with...i could ask up for more info if it helps pretty safe to say at least "semi-recent phones".

Quite simply it means your server does not have the EXIF extension available.

You can verify this by looking at the "Server environment report" on the Admin home page.

Once that is resolved, we can rotate the pictures for you automatically on upload.

thank you chris to clear that up.....

we did fix it way back then um, last week.....but have now since upgraded to php7.3.....i was told php7.3 does not support the EXIF extension?
is it not possible to use php7.3 and have proper upright images?

The EXIF extension certainly is compatible with PHP 7.3. Someone has given you incorrect information there.
