I know this is a bit of an edge case and probably going to be specific to people building internal apps on top of XenForo, but with XF2, we lost the ability to specify a table including the database name (before you could name a table in a datawriter as "databasename.tablename"). With the changes to XF2, we lost the ability to do so since the table name is wrapped in "`". Which essentially renders the entity and finder system not viable in those cases.

My personal use cases where I keep large applications' data isolated in their own database are these:
While these are all driven by a XF front-end, the backend data is siloed on their own databases.
