I've just customized it a little bit for my board and share here if someone found it useful:

OPEN openfire_livesearch.css

ADD at the begining of file:

Cleanup of options in admin panel, removed unneeded file and added breathing input option

!!! you can remove the /js/openfire/ folder as since 1.0.4 the javascript is included as template. i forgot to remove that file, im sorry! !!!

this update also changes the options in the admin panel to tabbed settings.

also it adds 2 new options

  • Breathing input box
  • Breathing input - color
enabling the box will add a Breathing effect to your input box.
the color of the breathing effect is also configurable, just enter a hexadecimal css color value and save! :)

its easy to change, but it requieres some extra work to make it good looking.

To tag me when you do . I can see your screenshot. but I will custom top bar and I want this search bar to look like the one in Facebook. Can I have it without GO/Submit button ? So user just type in keyword and press enter.

there is no Go/Submit button.

it searches as you enter text.

but you have that option "Deactivate LiveSearch Toggle" which removes this button.

I get an error on the forum home page so I had to disable the add-on? How can I disable the search on the forum index? Is there any option coming to only search the specific forum?

seems it conflicts with another addon.

can you provide me an error log please?


yes i planned to add an option, that you can choose, where to display it, i just didnt find the time to do so yet.

I found it after the fact, sorry I was having one of "those" mornings. I noticed it was not finding the very latest of a topic, however I was going to install advanced search and see if it helped.

i take your feedback very serious.
i added a warning about the "branding" to the description and will empty the default string, containing the link, in the next update.
im very sorry for this.

in the settings you can set if finding new or old threads first, worked for me. if you have more troubles, please let me know and ill try my best to help!
 
Btw, does this search only through first post of topic? Because I can't find some (a few days old) posts in specific topic if I put is some text from the post.

it only searches for the titles, not content of the posts.

this is to find relevant threads really quick, instead of, for example:
you search for "apple" and get only threads with "tomatoes", because one word in the post is "apple".
 
My users are a little bit confused when using livesearch and I'm becoming too.

It's not so usable anymore. For example:

If I have a thread "Test text" and put that in the search box it is ok. But if I put in "text test" it won't find it.

Another example:

On my board I have lot's of thread like this: "Text: test". You can see the " : " character. When searching and you put in "text test" it won't find it again, because you left the : character. It's a little bit confusing and make in less usable, well, for my users.
