Based on Mike's information regarding an upcoming "Notable Member List", I thought to create a separate thread in order not to derail the "Have You Seen"-thread with feedback and suggestions regarding the Memberlist and the "Notable Member List".

Here we can drop-in ideas, suggestions, etc. and go wild on brainstorming :)

Here we go :D

Some additional ideas & brainstorming:

1)
Just making this page the "Main Memberlist Tab" would already add value:
http://xenforo.com/community/recent-activity/

... and having the "A-Z Memberlist" (or the "Notable Members") as a sub-tab would change things and would make any Forum look more lively.
Prospective new members are rather clicking onto "Main Tabs" than on "Sub-Tabs".

2)
Showing "Followers" and "Following" at the Memberlist and showing "Followers of my own Followers" at the Profile-page.

3)
Check this out (a nice hover-effect over images, tags, etc.):

And have a look at this one:

I would prefer a tabbed organisation. Also add:
* show filtered random people for 1 hour or 1 day or ...
* show people you follow, are following you (I see, you have it in 2) ;))
* show people joined today
* show people reaching a goal today, based on their trophy points
* show people celebrating an anniversary (one year membership, 2 years, 5 years, 10 years...)
* and finally display them on a map (google maps, openstreetmaps ...)
* t.b.c.

Ok I'll just repost my draft from the other thread.

I prefer a grid design over a list design.

'Show more' would show an animation, adding more members into the grid. More member info could be added, but I'd prefer not too much clutter. People can always click to see the member cards or profiles for more. Or add-ons can be created.

Also notice added links in the sidebar.

oh, yeah... you are right :)

there could be a Tab for "Most Messages", another Tab for "Most Likes" and another Tab for "Most Resources", etc.

Similar as the Tabs we do have at the RM.

I would like the memberlist to do 3 things:
  1. act as a gamification leaderboard by listing the member- and the reader- rankings. (trophies, posts, goals, etc)
  2. increase social interaction by
    - displaying users with similar interests or post to the same nodes, followers.
    - displaying relevant information and contact functions on hover.
  3. showcase user groups like staff, (for example: Meet the staff)
I think the suggestions about a grid layout and having hover features are excellent.

2)
Showing "Followers" and "Following" at the Memberlist and showing "Followers of my own Followers" at the Profile-page.

Note:
Pinterest is in fact not showing "Followers of my own Followers" - this idea came to me by accident :D

The small icons you see at Pinterest (see screenshot below) are actually showing "Pins" of various "interest-based images" per user. These small images are indeed NOT showing User-Avatars ("Followers of my own Followers").

As said, this idea came to me by accident as I first thought these small "images" are showing "Followers of my own Followers".
I probably had a blackout in the middle of the night (Dec. 24th 2012) or was tired or something....... but sometimes "accidents" result in interesting ideas ;)

well, if we would have various Pinboards per user showing "Collections" of his interests (images, videos, articles, files, websites, etc.), you could indeed display "users with similar interests".

I would prefer something that caters to large websites, showcasing large numbers of notable members, while at the same time giving access to a lot of information (by hover function and by use of icons)
It would be nice to see the user status as well.

with "endless scrolling" you could also show an endless number of "Notable Members", no matter if it is for "large websites" or small ones....
It's all a matter of design........ image-hover, size of follower-icons, etc.

Yes, a lazyloader would be interesting to add, but the tiles would need to be somewhat compact. Endless scrolling would indeed be without end if only 6 members fit on a pageload and you want to browse hundreds of notable members.

yeah, exactly.
Unfortunately, I could not visualize "endless scrolling" in my Mockup :D;)

Holy busy memberlist. I like a lot of information displayed, and options... but that is almost overkill.

This is just a simple Mockup. It is hard to visualize the idea on a static Mockup.

If you use hover-effects over avatar-images, then it does not look "busy" at all.
Hover-effect similar to here (hover over the images to see what I am talking about): http://weheartit.com

:)

The "function" of a Memberlist should be to "discover" people - based on their activity and most importantly based on their interests: "Find like-minded people with whom you share common interests....."

The current "A-Z"-listing of members does not provide this functionality.

ohhh.... clicking onto the button "More People" requires you to "Login" in order to see "More People" :D

So don't click on it yet ;)
