OK, not so much a minor bug, but it is useful I guess to trim empty spaces before and after the code as it helps rendering the information better.

This isn't something we do with code or html tags either. I do see one potential minor inconsistency with the PHP tag though, but on the whole I think this is perhaps more of an end user choice -- the line breaks would have been intentionally put in (or left).
