XF 2.1 New 2.1 install; 99% of users unable to post [SOLVED]

This is day 1 of a new 2.1 upgrade from 1.5.1 running on php 7.1. The test site worked perfectly but now, in production, most users are getting an "Oops, something went wrong" error when they try to post anything or send a PM.

I have created a new vanilla registered user and tried an old, never-used user. Both work fine. I have one user in Canada who can post. but that's all.

No logged errors in XF, no errors reported in my server logs.

Could persistent cookies from 1.5 cause this? Anything else I should check?

I found it... admin error, of course. I had in the index page route set incorrectly. When entered as "forums/" everything magically worked again.

Still, those were odd symptoms and I don't understand how it would impact some users and not others, but Mongo only pawn in game of life.

Thanks everyone, for your help!

One other issue to report that now explains the discrepancy between users: the content of POST.attachment_hash_combined was triggering my malware filter, but not throwing an error. the people who could post had ip's that were whitelisted.
