Can someone please tell me what the <nav> tag is for?

    Thanks Mate!

I am creating a copy of the main links of the navbar in the footer of my site...makes it easier for users to navigate to other main sections of my site without having to go to the top of the page...so I was wondering about the <nav> tag and whether to use it for those links however in the article you have linked to it says:
" In particular, it is common for footers to have a list of links to various key parts of a site, but the footer element is more appropriate in such cases, and no nav element is necessary for those links."
so I guess I leave it out

    Thanks again!
