MYSQL version?

My server is running outdated 5.6. I can finally upgrade it due to not having an older forum software on it. Can I upgrade to latest? Or which version? Thanks!

So best bet is have host migrate MySQL 5.6 to latest MariaDB? This is a pretty safe process?

I'm in the middle of an import and re-launch so the site isn't live, figuring it's a good time to do it. But to keep things simple, stay on MySQL and upgrade to 8?

yeah, it's a simply direct scripted update in cpanel, probably other softwares as well.
