Moving Over to Xenforo

Hello all. Hope you are well.

I own a gaming community for approx 60 members. We are thinking of moving over from Invision v5 to XenForo. Was just wondering if could ask some questions before we commit to the move? Loving the demo so far!

1) migration - does v5 work with migration tool and is the tool available out of the box? We have about a year worth of forum data to migrate over so wondering if worth it.

2) self hosted or cloud? Typically for a community of less than 100 members but with daily traffic is self hosted the preferred route normally or cloud?

3) how much are the marketplace addons typically for things such as blogs, calender and such? Are they easy to install?

4) is the branding upgrade referring to the large XenForo badge at the top left or the copyright elsewhere?

For both there are pretty solid add ons available. I'm pretty sure you'll discover the need for a couple more after a while. ;)

What is also important is that the price is not tied to the value that an add on brings. There are a lot of excellent free add ons and there are very good paid add ons as well but also some paid ones where I am a bit baffled about the price for the functionality or some paid ones that lack features, support, further development and quality control, some all of that. Surely not the standard but it is worth reading the discussion threads of an add on you are interested in and you'll probably quickly get an idea.
yeah the marketplace and resources on xenforo look much better and much better support level compared to invision, where they took away the marketplace and the add ons are not scattered into smaller sites where developers can sell their stuff

Ips 5 importer isn't listed on the official XenForo importers.

That being said, the importer can be tweaked to support Ips 5 or you can import first to another platform and then import to XenForo.

It depends imo. If you don't mind having direct access to your database or ftp, then go for the Cloud hosting. Otherwise self hosting might be a better solution.

There is a Blog add-on and it's free. Installing add-ons is very easy in XenForo. You can install them with just a few clicks from your Admin Panel.

Or you could hire @MattW to import it for you maybe. He also has hosting services.

Awesome thanks!
Appreciate all the help guys. Will get the ball rolling on switching :)
If you're worried about keeping all data in tact when transferring, I would definitely contact @MattW on his website. Even if you already have hosting set up, he may be able to organise the transfer for you which I assume would be a one off fee, and keep everything in tact. Although he does do good hosting as well :-)

Hey thanks! Yep will check there too appreciated!

Even the cloud's good as you don't have to worry about updating it as the staff do it for you.

For sure thank you! It’s definitely cheaper than Invision so defo an option weighing up.

@Hatsu appreciate that! Sorry what’s VPS? Yeah I’m swerving towards self hosted but even the cloud makes a huge saving going from 79.99 pounds a month to 43 per month.
i have 76,000 members and 1.5 million posts and my server bill is $8-12 a month including hosting 50gb of attachments.

you're getting hosed if you have 100 members and paying 80 or 40.

ovh + s3 or R2 + centminmod
