This is a bug, but in terms of SEO, it would use a 301 redirect.

I don't consider this to be a bug though - the redirect represents the thread at the time. This is also fitting when a redirect is used for a merged thread.

good point, so this means that it generates 2 different urls correct? but the shadow is a 'not found' (404)?
