Fixed Move thread alert sent from restricted forum

Problem (bug?): A member receives an alert when a thread that they started is moved from one sub forum that they do not have access to another sub forum that they do not have access, and the mod has not unticked the notification option.

Context: We keep various admin records in threads in a restricted forum with a few sub forums, the threads occasionally get moved between restricted forums. Some are started using the "Conversation to Thread" plugin which makes the member the thread starter. Ideally we don't want them to know that the thread exists, which does happen sometimes when they get the alert that it has been moved.

Ideally members shouldn't see the alert if they don't have permission for those forums, and this should take precedence over the notification setting.

Workarounds -
  • remember to un-tick the option. Sometimes forget, leaving some explaining to do, or not use the Conversation to Thread plugin. (it saves a lot of copy and pasting on mobile).
  • change the notification form field defaults

Agree. I believe the same goes for @-tags and possibly various other actions. If something happens entirely "in private"(*) then nothing at all should find its way out into the public domain.

(*) i.e. if the recipient does not have "view" permission
