Abbreviations that begins with F, H, L, M, N, R, S, and X start with vowel sound, so yeah, we have to use an (http://www.grammar-monster.com/lessons/an_or_a.htm - scroll down to BEWARE area). And I'm pretty sure you pronounce SKK letter by letter, since it has to be an abbreviation.
