Hello,

I still run a phpBB forum with 2 million posts and 60,000 users. I was actually leaning toward vBulletin already, but AI keeps suggesting that XenForo might be the better option.

The migration to vBulletin seems complicated, but manageable. For me, only a self-hosted solution is an option.

Before making a final decision, I would really like to better understand the migration process. Are there any guides, tutorials, or real-world experiences regarding this?

Also, how are redirects usually handled when moving from the old phpBB URL structure to the new one?

Redirects are redirects, regardless of platform. You can do it at DNS like CF or server.

VB is resource intensive. Whilst I have read lots of bad things about it still, and I was an ex VB4 myself to XF donkeys ago, VB used to take a 4 core VPS to run a few hundred thousand posts. XF will run 2 million posts on 2 cores, no issues. Addons are always the difference.

XF is stable, secure and not bloated with nonsense. If you want to bloat it, then you do so via addon functionality that you require.

Install the imports, follow the on screen prompts through and away you go

Very easy to get to XenForo from phpbb. Then usually use some .htaccess rules to forward the old urls.
