Messages vs. Posts

Does "Messages" hearken back the the "message board" days? Because I can see I have 212 messages, but in this day and age, a la "Messenger" apps etc., to me that references what XF calls a Conversation.

Of course I can edit the language.

Messages->Posts
Conversations->Messages

post counts

I see 'Messages' in every user profile but nothing about 'post count'. The two numbers don't seem to correspond so I'm guessing post counts are not used in this bb?

I suppose they don't want to rock the boat by changing it, but for someone just about to use XF for the first time, it seems like the perfect time to change.
