Members can't get new password email

I cannot figure out why my 8,000 members whose passwords from our old forum did not convert over to XenForo cannot get a new password reset email. They are requesting one, checking their spam and junk folders but one never comes.
For a few members I have gone into the Administration control panel and changed their password to a new one for them. Sometimes it works - other times it doesn't. HELP! I'm at a loss and not a programmer. Where do I go to check the settings for new password reset?
 
If you require support, you will need to associate your forum user name with your customer account, which will then enable you to post in the customer forums.
