Cannot reproduce Media slider - Random issue

Random does not work in the following scenario:

Create a category that only allows embeds (in my instance it is YT and Vimeo)
In the widget select this category only, Random, and not from individual albums.
Set it to 8
Only 5 show even though there are more than 8. Only 5 ever show, no matter the number to display.

This isn't something I can reproduce.

There is a process to periodically select a pool of random media items via cron entry. This is done for performance reasons so it may be something like that which you ran into, though as it is cron based, the cron would most likely have run a few times now and hopefully the issue is resolved.

In the ticket it was suggested I not use random in this situation:

(1 category, 16 items) which is part of a larger gallery (several categories/albums, 300 items).

Suggestion:
So I would suggest now, that some similar wording be added: Random may not work efficiently until there is enough media to randomize. Having the required media per thumbnail may not be enough and may return empty results.

I changed to a category with more media (51) and it did work. Thanks

I have the same problem, testing with an album with 79 images in. It’s displaying 8 images selected at random. I have had 0-8 images display, mainly 2 or 3.

How many images does it need to work correctly?
