Media Gallery category "article" format

The new xenForo article type is a really neat option, in my opinion.

I ran a photopost gallery in the vbulletin days which presented images more like the way xenForo now presents forum notes which are "article" type.

It would be great if the Media Gallery had a corresponding "article" type where images could be presented more like the article type, where instead of a lightbox you click the thumbnail and get the image "article" page, where a description and other info appears under the photo, and allows a discussion of the photo.

Can't you just turn off the lightbox for it to do this?

The forum can do two things now... you can set a forum (or some forums) to be either article format or forum format. Actually you can set the article format to either preview or full. So I really like that flexibility in the forum now with the article option.

I've been thinking about modifying Media Gallery to be more like Media Gallery 1.5. (Turn off the lightbox for the image grid. Display media title and author below photo instead of hover. On the media page itself, add lightbox to enable zoom. A few other things.)

But looking at the flexibility that the forum offers now has with the article option, I wonder if Media Gallery can do both.

So you could designate some categories as "article" format and those would display with "maximum respect" to the photo and create a unique context for it.

And other categories you could create to do things with Media Gallery 2.x does now, such as mirroring forum attachments, where it's designed to quickly browse through attachments in the forum.

In addition to flexibility to do more than one thing, it would be nice to have an "article format"-like option for the gallery so I wasn't fighting future development. It would be nice to just click an option and be in-sync with future development.
