I just noticed I can't filter media items by category when using the API!
It seems like a bug to me as it is a rather basic feature...

Thank you for reporting this issue. The API does support listing media from a single category. This is done through the media category endpoint: request a category's content by its ID. It returns that category's media, including any child categories, and accepts the same media type, user, sort and paging options as the general media list.
