XF 1.2 Login/Signup - Changing name or email to username only

I've read several posts on how to change this. No luck. it still comes up as offering visitors to sign up with their email address or name.

I think that bothers a lot of folks. I sure would not sign up to a forum when my choices are my name or email address instead of username. People were signing up with their real name - even though later it says it can't be changed once they register - they are still very uncomfortable given only the initial option of name or email address.

I've tried other suggestions from here and it is not working for me

Please someone give me a reasonable step by step to change name or email address to username. The rest of the sign up form asks for an email address anyway.

Search (via ACP -> Appearance -> Search Phrases) for your_name_or_email_address
change

Your name or email address

to

Your username or email address

You could also remove the "email address" portion to indicate to only use usernames - but it won't stop a user from being able to use email address as their username.

If you are talking about the prompts that come up when you log in, then yes, it should work. I just changed it on one of my forums. As you can see, it now says username instead of name.
