At the moment, the latest threads for each forum shown on the main page currently re-direct using /posts/. This works great for logged in members, but it's a huge waste of deep link juice potential for guests and search engines - especially when /posts/ is blocked in robots.txt.
My suggestion is that a new "last_thread_id" column is added to xf_forum, alongside the rest of the latest thread info. Then, an option to show only the main thread link (no page or post anchor) to non-logged users - i.e. /threads/test.123/ rather than /posts/456/.
This would prevent the /posts/ URLs being indexed (which shouldn't happen as they are 301 redirects, but they are), and it would mean that the link actually counts with weight, rather than being ignored if it's in robots.txt.
