Lack of interest Link Target

I'd like links within the domain to open in the same tab, links other than the site's domain to open in another tab. I don't to take people away from my site to view links.

Be aware that browser settings can override any forum settings for this sort of thing.

While I totally understand the idea behind this suggestion, I don't think this should be done.
Opening a new window (or tab) is a pretty disruptive action, especially on a mobile device (which usually is the predominant device type by now).

Not-so-savy users (eg. normal users) might get confused and unable to get back to your forum due to this; believe it or not - I am dealing with such users every day, users that don't even know what a browser is.

So this could actually achieve quite the opposite of your intention.
