Link Directory (LD) [Deleted]

Hi, just have a couple of questions pre-purchase (apologies if answered elsewhere). Firstly, when you enable create thread, is there a way to create that thread in a specific node?

I tried the demo, but I couldn't see a thread created even though it was enabled in ACP?

Secondly, is there an option for custom fields/plans to introduce?

Finally, the links I created didn't create a thumbnail even though I had the option checked. Is this due to permissions maybe?

Yes, each category allows you to nominate the forum that you want the thread to be created in.

Which option did you select - screenshot, og:image, or upload?

Hi @Mouth thanks for the reply. Just saw the forum option in create new category.

Regarding screenshot, I had the first option, screenshot selected. The link to site (Google) works fine, but no screenshot is made.

Would you know anything about custom fields either now or in future releases?

Google.com gets redirected by Google, so no screenshot of a auto redirected site would be available. You'd have to put the URL that results when you put google.com into your browser I believe.

No, and I don't have any need for custom fields. I argue that this is a links directory, not a review directory, and additional fields are not applicable to a links directory.

OK thanks. Still not having any luck with creating screenshots. Tried copying and pasting MLS soccer from the browser for my latest attempt but still no joy. Not a huge issue though, I can do screenshots manually (y)

(Update) just looked again and the screenshot is now showing.

Thought for discussion .... should we have an ACP log for whom has rated a thread, and what rating they gave?

Sure it can help you see if members are purposely rating other members links as 1 star.

Make it optional though.

I won't need it because I don't permit ratings. I only permit likes.

Can we add option to hide category from the list/grid item?

Can we add option to display the category in the ld_control template instead? This lets the comment button in the list display not have any other info to crowd it up. Category is something that can be posted very small with the other info.

If you display a menu of categories, then you really don't need the category to appear next to every link as that's very repetitive. Less is more in this case.

I hid the info elements on the list view, changed the text size/color of the title links, and made the share number into the share word. It makes more sense for the common user who might be new to your site.

I also moved the number of comments next to the word COMMENTS and removed the second line of info, as it's not really important when the last comment was made.

Anyone interested in this optional feature?

When user opens a link, it opens with a frame above it. It can browse links based on categories or tags, unless user clicks on "random."

Many people use a sticky navigation, so this could fit in nicely on our sites.

The frame has
- mini logo
- next/previous/random link
- share me link shows FB, Twitter, Reddit icons to share on (can be admin's choice)
- Like/dislike
- add comment
- My profile link (mini avatar maybe)
- If logged in as a user, then also shows "push to VIP" which then prompts them to purchase the VIP option.

VIP links will appear more often and when the VIP links have been exhausted (for when there's not too many links yet) - then everything rotates normally.

It can work sorta like StumbleUpon and it may get people to use the link system more. It would socially spark some activity and shares because when it shares the link, it can share the link to YOUR site that leads to the users site.

I doubt I understand what you're thinking is.
Link's already open in a new tab/window, and I certainly wouldn't want them opening in some sort of model pop-up (like when you click on an avatar to get a member card)

If you're viewing a top-level category list, which contains link entries in sub-categories, then you'd not be able to tell what category a link belongs to.
If the link belongs to the category you're currently viewing, then I can understand not showing the category. But if it doesn't, I think category then becomes important. And it would be inconsistent if it sometimes showed and sometimes not.

Take a tour of StumbleUpon.com and then you'll see exactly what I'm leaning towards. It's one of the largest sites in the world and all it does is show you links and users vote on the good ones (we do this), keep a collection of things they like/added (we do this). I don't think SU has any of it's own content; just links!

While this would work wonders for my site, it may not be suitable for yours - that's why I always suggest that every feature is optional.

Consider your category comment - I don't focus on the cats, but more so the links and generating clicks, so the way you use categories doesn't apply to me, which is why I commented them out of the template.

The cool thing is that we can both use the same addon in very different ways - which is awesome thanks to it's flexibility and optional items.

Appears it requires sign-up before I see a thing? I don't engage with sites like that, unless there's a very compelling reason. More likely harvesting and selling my details.

There you go - never heard of it before.

You may have seen it's Icon in many of the popular share this/add this toys you can put on websites, but it just wasn't enough to grab your attention.

Or like you said, it requires membership.

This one is OK to register to if you're bored and want to see how it works. It has an Alexa of 400ish, pretty huge, not a brand new site seeking to spam anyone.

It's pretty cool to browse the links in it and you can cater the links to your liking to get things you're interested. If you ever need something new to post about, there's always something hiding in there.

Hi, there is an issue now with v2.6

How can I remove the "Your Bookmarks" from mine and all member profile pop-up boxes? See the image below.

I already have a Bookmarks add-on and now it is confusing because it is listed twice. Yours is the one below "Your Links".

We need the ability to turn the "Your Bookmarks" and maybe even the "Your Links" off so they do not appear when necessary. I tried setting the permissions for Bookmark Links to never, but it didn’t work. This is going to be an issue for people like me who already have Bookmark add-ons installed.

How do I remove this from showing up?

Thanks...

Is it possible to add functionality when selecting multiple links to bulk adjust tags?
So an extra option in the popup where I can bulk edit tags?
With close to 2000 links it makes life easier to add the tags ;)
Thanks for considering ;)

why don't you just re-name the Phrase "Your Bookmarks" towards something like "Your Link Bookmarks" or "Link Directory Bookmarks" or "Your Directory Bookmarks" or some other wording ?
